Deleting my LJ

I have finally gotten around to deleting my LJ! \o/ The only thing I couldn't decide is whether I should delete community entries. I'm leaning towards not, because there could be communities that someone wants to import to DW that have my entries in them. What have other people done here?

Also, I have followed [personal profile] sage's example and created a mod journal [livejournal.com profile] luzula_mod for any remaining import issues.

I did not delete entries to comms (at least, I hope I didn't :) ). I feel like that's a way to preserve some history while (theoretically) getting out of having LJ have one's personal info.

Well, yes, that's why I said "theoretically." :(

I encourage you to not delete community entries (at least not until we have finished all those imports). *stares at as-yet-untouched imports spreadsheet*

In theory I appreciate the importance of preserving fannish history, but for purely selfish reasons I wiped everything. I'd always wiped my previous usernames too. No doubt there will be copies somewhere, but it felt cathartic. Having said that, I'd backed up the main Age of Sail comms to DW some time ago, so most of that was saved.

(When I moved house recently, I spent a long long time shredding boxes of letters written to our fanzine, going back to the early 90s. That did make me sad - but they had people's personal details on, so there was nothing else I could do with them except skim a few, smile, and keep shredding.)

There's only so long you can hoard things. All the non-confidential stuff went to another fan - we met halfway across the country and transferred boxes from my car to hers like contraband *g*

It was an X-Files zine called DTA, created to share with fans who didn't have computers (which was most of them, in those days). I've just tried googling it and this is the only thing that came up: https://flexiblefish.tumblr.com/post/161356363509/alakeeffectgirl-rsadelle-alakeeffectgirl
(Hey, look! I made that cover!)

In retrospect TXF wasn't a great show, but its UK/Irish/French fan group was a lot of fun because we lived close enough to meet up regularly. I miss that.

Don't know if I'll ever got around to 100% deleting my LJ, because I'm terrible at doing stuff like that (settled for changing my password), but kudos to you for doing so! The recent (well, semi-recent) developments over there are just so unsettling it's hard to post over there. But I'm still worried I'll miss out on Yuletide stuff, even with the mirrored communities here on DW :/

I'm curious about what a mod journal is; is it an official term or a newly invented one?

True, Yuletide is a huge affair, so reading everything is rather impossible. I'm just prone to worrying for the sake of worrying :)

Ah, thanks for that clarification! I've never admined any communities on LJ, which is likely why I haven't heard that term until now.

*sigh* I need to do that.
