Lost Stars by Claudia Gray (2015)
This is a Star Wars book about two kids from the Outer Rim who go into the Imperial Fleet and eventually realize the Empire is horrible. I enjoyed it! The romance was okay, but I could take it or leave it—what I enjoyed about the book was the gradual realization of what they were actually working for and their different reactions to it.

Exhalation by Ted Chiang (2019)
Short story collection. I'd read maybe half of these before, but I always find Chiang's stories thought-provoking and was happy to reread. Recommended!

I just finished Exhalation myself - I thought it was wonderful! I give it kudos just for not having "Understand," egads, but I thought each and every story (except maybe the digients one?) was so appealing and immersive. The notes in the back were such a good idea; I loved learning a little bit more about the process of each.

I liked all the ideas, but I suppose I just didn’t connect much with the characters.
