I have heard of Honor Harrington, but am not sure they would work for me (from what I've read, they're not actually that well-written). And I've read some military SF with female protagonists (Elizabeth Moon's, for example) but they've been more light entertainment for me. Like, there is female competence, which I love, but there's not actually much soul-searching and ethical issues.
