1) I seem to have written Star Wars fic (for Rogue One), but I don't know anyone in the fic-writing fandom. Anyone want to read it through for me? It is Cassian/Bodhi (sort of) and less than 2000 words.

2) Who has posted their Yuletide story? ME. I have posted my Yuletide story. And I'm quite happy with it, too. How is yours going?

3) Today I found Trametes suaveolens, a poroid wood-living fungus not found in this county or the surrounding ones since the 1960's, at least according to the online database. Eeeee!! \o/ At least I am 99.5% sure it is this one, I need to check it with an expert.

4) I've been doing some different stuff at work lately, namely visiting students who will be math teachers while they are out doing internships at schools. I observe them giving a class and then give them feedback afterwards. I was dubious at first if I should be doing this given that I have no experience teaching high school myself, but my boss seemed to think I was the right person. And it went fine! I mean, I'll probably get better at it with time, but it was easy to find stuff to talk about and tips to give them. It was also good for me as a teacher, because it made me reflect a lot on what I do myself. I am excited for my next course so I can put that reflection into practice.

5) Talked to my long-term crush on the phone yesterday and I have been happy all day about that. Non-awkwardness achieved! \o/ Except for that one stupid thing I said which I have been wishing I didn't say, but hopefully it is stupider in my head than in reality.

Soooo, is there anyone who would be willing to beta-read 3000 words of Laurence/Napoleon? You'd need to have read the last Temeraire book. It probably also needs Britpicking.

Yeah, I don't know what came over me--I haven't written spontaneous fic like this for a long time, but hey, it was fun.

I need pronunciation help with this for a podfic: ὠνείδισας δὴ τοῦτο Διονύσῳ καλόν. (You reproach Dionysus for what is his glory. --The Bacchae, Euripides)

Anyone? : )

Anyone up for beta-listening a two-hour long Generation Kill podfic? The fic is this one, with the pairing Nate/Ray. I'd need the beta back on Tuesday night.

I'm looking for a podfic beta for a short Code Name Verity podfic (which contains spoilers for the book, so it's best if you've read it). Anyone?

Anyone feel like beta-listening to a podfic of The Maenad of the Maquis by [personal profile] rthstewart? It's a post-canon Narnia story with Peter Pevensie in WWII occupied France, and it has Peter/OFC. It's 1 hour and 40 minutes, and you don't need detailed memories of the Narnia series. I'd need it back by Monday, so I can do any re-records it might need and post it before Amplificathon ends. : )

Is anyone up to beta-listening a 3:10 to Yuma podfic that contains some Spanish, to check my pronunciation? The pairing is Dan Evans/Ben Wade, it's about 50 minutes long, and I don't have a specific deadline (except that I'd like to post it before amplificathon is over on the 30th of April).

ETA: Found someone!

Anyone up for a beta of a gen Aubrey/Maturin podfic? It's about one hour and twenty minutes long, and there's no deadline for it.

I'm writing a podfic workshop for the Generation Kill comm, and I wonder if one of the podficcers reading this would like to give me some feedback on my draft? The comm has already had one Podfic 101 workshop, so this is meant to be a more advanced workshop that assumes you already know the basics. So far, the draft covers reading, sound quality, editing, and podfic fandom.

I'm looking for a beta for my dS/C6D big bang podfic, Unsent by [personal profile] nos (Wilby Wonderful, Duck/Dan). It's about 3 hours, 15 minutes long. I'm looking for mispronunciations, awkward phrasing or pacing, and anything else you want to give feedback on.

I'm looking for a beta for a podfic of [personal profile] dorinda's The Buried Treasure Racket, which is fic for the movie "The Sting". The podfic is about two hours and 45 minutes.

Any kind of feedback is welcome! But I'm specifically looking for someone to find mispronunciations and other errors, as well as feedback on lines that sound off (maybe because they're too slurred, or because the intonation/characterization sounds off) and might need to be re-recorded.

I'm so glad to be done with the first draft of this! It's an awesome fic, and it was so much fun to record.

1) Anyone want to beta-listen to a podfic of my Yuletide story, about an hour long? You probably need to know the basic worldbuilding of The Left Hand of Darkness, but it's all original characters.

2) [personal profile] sage wrote me fic! In fact, she wrote me the Bob/Buck/Caroline fic of my heart. ♥ ♥ ♥ Do go read it, and then tell her how wonderful it is.

3) I posted a podfic of my femslash story The Hills of Iowa for the Triangle challenge on [community profile] fan_flashworks. Now I just need to write an entry for the current challenge, too, and then I get an author tag! This is ridiculously motivating for me for some reason, and I have a halfway-written fic for it already. I love how these kinds of challenges make you write things you wouldn't otherwise have written.

4) Am down in the south for the annual meeting of the environmental organization of which I am a board member. Oof, all-day meetings make me tired, and on top of that there was someone snoring all night in my train compartment, so I didn't sleep well. *yawns*
luzula: a Luzula pilosa, or hairy wood-rush (Default)
1) Just spent the whole weekend in a board meeting with the environmental NGO where I am treasurer. I organized the practical details and also spent some time on preparing a proper agenda and meeting procedures and so on, and I think it was worth it, but whew, now I'm tired. There was a bit of a clash of meeting cultures--I prefer a fairly structured meeting environment whereas other people want to be able to speak freely without speaker lists and so on. Cool thing we have recently done: helped a Russian group get 20,000 hectares of old-growth forest protected by pressuring the Swedish-owned company that wanted to log it! Woohoo! To clarify: the Russian group did basically all of the work for it, and then they just asked us to help scare the company. *g*

2) Have no time right now for all the AO3 and OTW stuff that's going on. (ETA: Though yes, I am going to vote.) The [community profile] pod_aware fest is my happy place right now--I've been listening to all the awesome meta podcasts. I'll make my own when I'm less busy.

3) Anyone want to beta the first 20 minutes or so of a podfic of [personal profile] catwalksalone's How the Ray Was Won? I pondered at first how to post this without [personal profile] andeincascade seeing, but then I realized that this is for a charity auction, not a birthday! She already knows I'm doing it. So, Ande, you are welcome to volunteer yourself if you want.

Anyway: I'm looking for feedback on characterization, not technical aspects. For whatever reason, I find it hard to read Vecchio. I went back to watch an episode to get a feel for the way he talks, and it's really quite distinctive, but it's hard to do. I feel like I nailed it in a couple of dialogue lines, but other times I feel like he's not distinct enough from the way I read Kowalski. This is difficult especially in quick exchanges without dialogue tags--suddenly I get why people complain about lack of dialogue tags. This has never been a problem for me with Fraser and Kowalski, because their voices are so distinct for me. Good news: I feel like I get Frannie's voice now, which I was also having trouble with before.

Is there anyone who'd like to read a half-written fic for me? I need a bit of feedback to keep me going (but not line-by-line beta reading at this stage). This is a mostly gen fic about Victoria after "Victoria's Secret". Basically, it's about her eventually getting over Fraser and working her way to a life mostly without crime. She ends up as a computer programmer/hacker, although I haven't gotten to that part yet, and I dread it because of the research involved. There will also be Victoria/OFC. Anyway, the fic is 5400 words now, and will likely be fairly long.

Am recording a book for Librivox now: Peter Kropotkin's autobiography "Memoirs of a Revolutionist", which I love. It's quite interesting to read something other than fanfic for a change, and luckily I have a half-Russian neighbor who is helping me with the pronunciation. Although I have to say that switching between English r:s, Russian r:s (which are like Swedish r:s) and French r:s is annoying. I can do each of them individually with no problem, but switching around makes me stumble.

It's quite annoying to realize you've been mispronouncing a word that occurs all the time in the story you're recording. Must re-record and edit, arrgh. (The word is "tapestry", which I was saying as "TAY-pes-try" but which is supposed to be "TAH-pes-try".)

On that note, anyone feel like beta-listening to this podfic? It's [personal profile] aria's The Dark Is Rising story No Second Coming. It was supposed to be my final Amplificathon entry, but then it got delayed and I missed the deadline. Ah well. It'll be done in a day or two, and will be about 1 hour and 45 minutes long. You probably need to know canon to appreciate it, so don't feel like you have to volunteer if you haven't read the books. : )

In other news, I'm writing again! \o/

1) Guess who just finished revising a 10,000 word fic and set it off to a second round of beta? Me! \o/

2) I'm looking for a beta-listener to a podfic of this (a fairly long Yuletide fic based on Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness"). I had my last podfic beta-listened, and it was great: I learned that "parameter" is pronounced pa-RA-met-er and not PA-ra-MET-er, and also that "gauche" does not have the same vowel sound in English as in French. Anyone want to help me root out more mispronunciations?

3) Am feeling better about work now. I'm improving my concentration by going off to the department library, where there is no Internet or computer to distract me, and it's amazing how much more I get done. This afternoon I had an intense three hours in the computer lab, though, with students bombarding me with questions. It amuses me every time how I don't actually know much about MATLAB programming and yet I can still answer their questions--most of them have to do with general logic and math, and if there's something specific to MATLAB commands or syntax, I can always tell them to use the "help" command (which apparently they can't do on their own). I felt like a wrung-out rag afterward, though.

4) I'll be working in the mountains for a month this year, too! I have a different kind of employment at the math department this year, and there won't be any trouble about getting time off from that. I'm looking forward to it so much. Yay!

So, I have this story which I first started working on two and a half years ago. It's been through several drafts, and then lain dormant in my WIP folder. But it felt like a pity to do all that work on it and never get it done, so while I was up in the mountains this summer, I took it up again and did some more rewriting.

The story is about Martha Fraser's youth, and it's mostly gen, although there is some Martha/George. It's 10,000 words long and rated PG-13. If you know about the 1920's or about Chinese culture (there's a Chinese OC), that would be awesome, but I will happily take your help anyway--just having another pair of eyes on it would be great. (If you do know about Chinese culture but don't feel like doing a full beta, I would love it if you'd look at just those aspects of the story.)

I unexpectedly wrote a Wilby Wonderful snippet! I'm pretty happy about this, since I've never written in any C6D fandom before. Does anyone want to take a quick look at it? I'd need it back by tonight, Swedish time (that is, in seven hours or so).

Beta?

Anyone want to take a look at a due South flashfic? It's about a thousand words of Fraser and Diefenbaker gen.

Anyone up for beta-reading a 1500-word Frannie/Elaine fic for the current [community profile] ds_flashfiction challenge? It's rated PG. I've never written the pairing before, so I kind of want someone else to look at it and tell me if the story works or not.
