Beta request + random other stuff

1) Guess who just finished revising a 10,000 word fic and set it off to a second round of beta? Me! \o/
2) I'm looking for a beta-listener to a podfic of this (a fairly long Yuletide fic based on Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness"). I had my last podfic beta-listened, and it was great: I learned that "parameter" is pronounced pa-RA-met-er and not PA-ra-MET-er, and also that "gauche" does not have the same vowel sound in English as in French. Anyone want to help me root out more mispronunciations?
3) Am feeling better about work now. I'm improving my concentration by going off to the department library, where there is no Internet or computer to distract me, and it's amazing how much more I get done. This afternoon I had an intense three hours in the computer lab, though, with students bombarding me with questions. It amuses me every time how I don't actually know much about MATLAB programming and yet I can still answer their questions--most of them have to do with general logic and math, and if there's something specific to MATLAB commands or syntax, I can always tell them to use the "help" command (which apparently they can't do on their own). I felt like a wrung-out rag afterward, though.
4) I'll be working in the mountains for a month this year, too! I have a different kind of employment at the math department this year, and there won't be any trouble about getting time off from that. I'm looking forward to it so much. Yay!

Date: 2011-05-06 06:58 am (UTC)And for some reason, I find it harder to ask for podfic betas than fic betas, but I don't know why. Maybe because podfic beta-listening is a less established thing?

Date: 2011-05-05 08:30 pm (UTC)Luz, I'd be glad to beta your podfic and could do it tonight after cheese class.
And YAY for feeling better about work; that can make a huge difference in your stress levels.

Date: 2011-05-05 08:57 pm (UTC)Yay, thank you! It's not quite done yet, though, and anyway the file is on my laptop, which is at work. I just thought I'd post about it now since I was making a post anyway. I'll probably be done with it tomorrow, and can send it to you then.
Also, you have a cheese class! This delights me. Do you learn to make cheese there? Or is it for cheese tasting?

Date: 2011-05-06 06:46 am (UTC)Oh, thank you! Ande offered to do this one, but I'll remember it for future reference. For some reason, I tend to be more shy about asking for podfic betas than fic betas, but I don't know why. Maybe because podfic beta-listening is a less established thing?

Yes! It will be the fourth summer I work there, and it's the best thing ever.
