1) I turned in both my due South/C6D Big Bang drafts in on time! The podfic is completely finished; the fic about 95% done. Woohoo! And I thought I wouldn't actually be able to write a Big Bang this year.

2) I cut down on my tag wrangling, finally managing to completely let go of the Tolkien fandoms. Which I should've done long ago, really--I have very little investment in the fanfiction fandom for it; I just picked it up years ago as a new wrangler because I know the canon well. Still wrangling due South, a fair amount of C6D, Generation Kill, etc.

3) Last week [profile] seascribe and I, in our continuing fandom-of-two for Steve McQueen, watched The Great Escape from 1963. It was...kind of weird? It's basically about Allied prisoners escaping from a Nazi POW camp, but there was a strange sort of boy scout feeling about it. Like, the Nazis are all "oh, you naughty prisoners, are you trying to escape again!" with cheerful music in the background. Neither of us really got into it as a movie, so we ended up just being shallow and objectifying Steve McQueen. Also, we'd heard there was a scene where he rode a motorcycle through a window a la Ray Kowalski in Easy Money, but this did not actually happen, although there was another motorcycle scene. Anyway, it was such a contrast to Papillon, where I really got invested in the story and characters.

1) Tierra del Fuego is pretty great! Dad had contacts at the university, so we spent the first night at a barbecue with (among others) a bunch of Canadians who were there to study beavers. This amused me muchly. Also, one of them had done field work on Ellesmere Island. *goes green with envy*

The next day, a really nice Argentinian post-doc in plant ecology took us out on a drive, and we geeked out about plants together. Strangely, Tierra del Fuego looks a bit like southern Sweden, only with more mountains? I mean, there's deciduous forest here--I expected it to look much more harsh. Photos to follow, I promise...

2) Am reccing on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month; my first recs are here. I've also finally imported the delicious due south crack van account to Pinboard. I'm going to fix up the tags a little (I'm so glad they have tag bundles!) and bookmark the backlog, and then post on the noticeboard about it.

3) I'm hosting a Skype chat for [community profile] alternate_ds_c6d on Sunday at 7 pm GMT. Do feel free to show up even if you're not sure you're going to do anything for the challenge! : )

4) Have cut down on my tag wrangling a bit--I'd been one of the wranglers for the Tolkien fandoms, but I dropped The Hobbit. It only made sense, since it's now a big fandom and I'm not in it at all. The rest of the Tolkien fandoms are not nearly as high traffic, and also there's a clear cultural difference in that they don't have the same Tumblr-style tags that Hobbit fandom does. If you're wondering what else I wrangle, it's due South, a lot of C6D fandoms, Generation Kill, Aubrey-Maturin, and lots of low-traffic rarelit fandoms. Feel free to ask if you have any tag-related questions about any of them!

1) I managed to keep away from the computer for almost all of yesterday, which was good. I've been having problems with my shoulders and hands this week, and computer work is what causes it, so. There's a big workload on the tag wranglers this week in preparation for Yuletide, but I'm trying to tell myself that it's not worth it to sacrifice my health for that. Instead, I played a zombie board game with some friends. One of my friends had made the game, and is beta-testing it. We had lots of fun with that, and then we cooked dinner together. \o/

2) I posted a Fraser/Victoria folk ballad recently for the [community profile] ds_flashfiction genre challenge. I'm really quite happy with it.

3) I'm doing guest reccing in November for [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux, and my first set of recs is for short podfics (or podficlets, as I like to call them).

4) Recent podfic: That Which Gives Extras, by [livejournal.com profile] katieforsythe (Sherlock Holmes (book canon), Holmes/Watson, NC-17, 1h 7m)

5) Have written 300 words of my DSSS fic, and I'm pretty confident that I can make it.

6) I was pondering [really rare fandom] yesterday, and wondering if I could offer to write it for Yuletide. And then a whole fic suddenly unfolded in my mind! Yuletide isn't quite as nervous-making as it seemed before.

Yay, I uploaded my DSSS yesterday! \o/

Also, I can see all the tags coming into the Archive from Yuletide stories. It is kind of cool. *is ridiculously excited for Yuletide*

Some of the unsorted freeform tags at the Archive are cracking me up. "Moderately Attractive Sheep"? "Traumatized Monks"? Heee.

Okay, going to my martial arts class now.

I posted this on the Archive of Our Own last week, but apparently I want it over here, too (if for no other reason than that the Archive is still in beta). Who knew that the first story I posted in over two years that wasn't due South would be RPF about fellow fans? Heh.

Rating: G
Length: 500 words
Summary: There is a new flow of tags in the Wrangulator.
Notes: Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur's forma, which is a lovely steampunk AU that quickly spawned lots of other ficlets in the same universe.

The new wranglers are just finding their feet, learning the workings of the great machine. )

1. Have written 25% of Big Bang fic.

2. Sent DSSS fic to beta.

3. Have done guest reccing of podfic at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux.

4. Uploaded all my fic to the AO3. At first I thought it was impressive that there are currently 570 due South fics there, but then I realized that more than 10% of them are mine. Ahahaha. I can't believe I've written 60 due South stories. Okay, half of them are snippets, but still.

5. Am now doing tag wrangling at the AO3. It takes some time initially, but I'm hoping that once I've wrangled the existing tags, it'll be enough to check for new tags once a week or something. I'm doing Master and Commander, Tolkien fandom and a bunch of tiny fandoms. It's funny, because I've always loved Tolkien's books, but I'm just not interested in most of the fic (with a few exceptions--I have found some good ones). OTOH, I can spot from a mile off when someone tags their fic "Feanor" instead of "Fëanor", so I'm hopefully doing a good job of it. I mean, I once spent a summer learning Quenya.

This evening, I watched the "Wolverine" movie with a friend. I think it was about showing the way chest muscles look in different kinds of lighting? Or something. Also, no way was that filmed in Canada, right? And the beginning scene, which was supposed to be in the NWT in 1845? Riiiight.
