...both collaborations with [personal profile] sanguinity.

Firstly, we did [community profile] pod_together with her writing and me reading. I asked her for Bush/Hornblower smut, and wow, did she deliver! *boggles* I prompted her with "filthy pining" which I afterwards felt was sort of run-of-the-mill and not very inspiring, but something inspired her, anyway. This fic is sort of an exercise in "how close can you get to having sex with someone and still have it be deniable". Turns out it's damn close! I had lots of fun recording this. Also, I appreciated her attention to having the women they have sex with have some agency and thoughts of their own, so far as that is possible to show in Hornblower's POV.

The book is partly based on historical events.

I think I will now take a break from podficcing for a while--my teaching is starting up for the fall, and I've just been recording so much for the past few years! But I am vaguely contemplating recording Broster's The Yellow Poppy for Librivox next year...

This has lingered half-done for a while, but I finally finished it. I don't know why I choose such challenging things to read! But I have got quite a lot of practice switching between French and English pronunciation now. I do think you can listen to this without any more canon knowledge than the general outline of history (Napoleon has just been defeated, the Bourbon king is back, the republicans struggle and make compromises...). I read it that way, at least. : )

I am finished with my 14 hour long Librivox audiobook of D K Broster's book Mr Rowl (1924), a fun, Heyer-esque adventure story about a French parole prisoner in England during the Napoleonic Wars. And I, on my part, have completed my Librivox audiobook of White Cockades by Edward Prime-Stephenson, from 1887. Download if you want melodramatic and historically dubious slash set in 18th century Scotland. We can be pretty sure it is meant as m/m, since the author recommended his own book as an example of homoerotic fiction under another pen name. : ) ETA: And thanks to [personal profile] garonne for prooflistening for me!

So, [personal profile] regshoe and I did [community profile] pod_together, er, together, and here's the result! It was clear from the beginning that we were going to do something inspired by folk songs, and I rambled about various songs that I like. And [personal profile] regshoe went with the idea that maybe Robert Burns' "Song Composed in August", most often known as "Westlin' Winds", was about a bird shape-shifter. My favorite version of that song is here, by the way, sung by Karine Polwart--it's so beautiful! Then she put various other ballads in for me to sing as part of the story, as well, which I always love to do. Also I learned about the ecology of grouse moors. It was a fun collaboration!

Flemington by Violet Jacob (8h 3m)

I posted 30h 50m of podfic and audiobooks in 2020. If I include recorded and unposted stuff, it's about 45 hours, depending on how I count stuff that's recorded but not edited, and prooflistened but not corrected. The unposted stuff is two big projects, one long unfinished Pride & Prejudice podfic, and one seekrit book project.

This is a lot compared to 2019, when I only recorded a total of four podfics, which together were 2h 49m! I felt almost sure that this year's podficcing was some kind of record for me, and if I count the unposted stuff, it is. BUT in 2010, I posted 73 podfics(!!) which were 42h 19m long in total! This was in the craziness of Amplificathon's heyday, when I won third place in the competition. Nowadays, I dislike recording short podfics, because of the administration involved in posting. I can't even imagine posting 73 podfics in one year! *boggles* Never again...

But on the whole, I've had great fun having a podfic revival, even if I feel rather isolated from other podficcers nowadays.

Have a Librivox audiobook! : D Obviously what I actually wanted to do is Flight of the Heron, but that only comes out of copyright in 2021, so here is Flemington instead. I apologize for my lack of a Scottish accent; what I did instead was to tone the Scots dialogue down as much as possible and not attempt any accent beyond my own. Thanks to [personal profile] garonne for beta-listening. ♥

There were three folk songs in the book that I set to music in order to sing them. I think they're actually all from Violet Jacob's poetry collection Songs of Angus, but I couldn't find any melody for them online. You can listen to the songs separately here, if you want.

Also, it amused me to post the audiobook on AO3. If a podfic is a transformative work of a fic, then surely an audiobook is a transformative work of the canon. Hee, it also meant I could label the canon with pairings if I wanted. *g*

Summary: Searching for Charles Edward Stuart in the hills above Arisaig, Keith Windham encounters an entirely different enemy—and an unexpected rescue. Or, what if Lachlan's timing hadn't been quite so opportune?

This is for [personal profile] regshoe, without whom I would not have read Flight of the Heron! <3 The podfic includes both Up in the Grey Hills, and the sequel It Will Be Summer. I love [personal profile] regshoe's language, which is very true to the book, and the nature descriptions--the pairing in this should really have been Keith/Ewen/Ardroy. Even the sex scene is kind of a threesome. *g*

I recorded most of this back in June, but then didn't edit and finish it until now. The cheerful and insistent chaffinch in the background is not really suitable for August, when the first fic is set and the birds have grown silent. Sorry about this! And I am sorry I could not provide a loon, which would have been fitting--there actually is one that sometimes hangs around in the lake nearby, but alas, I could not make it call on command. BUT, actually there is a wryneck somewhere in the recording! I was quite pleased when it decided to make its calls just then, because [personal profile] regshoe is such a birdwatcher. I was focused on other things when I prooflistened, or I would have given a timestamp.
