Over a month, in fact! I'm fine, but a bit swamped. I plan to make a proper status report post soon, because it will soon be half a year since I moved to the farm.

Meanwhile, I ought to properly thank garonne for her lovely FotH gifts to me in the Candy Hearts Exchange! ♥ As for me, I wrote the pre-Keith/Ewen/Alison fic A Lady at the Gate for sanguinity. And she, of course, wrote for garonne.

I also just have to tell you about a hilarious conversation between two teenage girls that I overheard on the bus today. Among other things they were talking about some classmate who was going to study math and computer science at university. Opined one of them: "That is for real the most vile thing I have heard in my entire life!" (You can substitute some trendy teenage word for "vile", I have no idea what it would be in English.)

They spoke further on the topic of some boy they hated at school, and had some quite creative things to say.
Girl 1: "I hope he burns his tongue every morning!" (Presumably on his coffee or tea?)
Girl 2: "I hope he never finds his personal style that he feels comfortable in!"
Which would never have occurred to me as a curse.

Oh that last one is devastating in the context of “influencer culture,” where one’s personal style is actually one’s livelihood.

Poor boy, I hope he wasn't some aspiring influencer, then... Or perhaps he deserved it? It wasn't entirely clear what he had done to inspire their dislike.

"I hope he never finds his personal style that he feels comfortable in!" Wow, just wow. Makes me think of the colorful curses I heard in my childhood, growing up in a home where one of the spoken languages was Yiddish, a language that excels at imaginative curses.

Heh! Although I'm not sure I agree that an onion is particularly upside down...I mean, they have flowers and leaf tips at the top.

Those creative curses are wonderful! Today online I saw someone say "I hope his pillow is lumpy every night!"

I wonder if an English speaking teen would say "rancid" for vile or if I just think I'm hip ha ha ha. The kids are all right.

I just closed my laptop and listened to for the rest of the trip! Tremendously entertaining conversation--they were so judgmental in the way that teenage girls can be.
