Podfic rec, sort of
Aug. 29th, 2009 10:35 pmI just found an awesome resource on the web: Librivox, an archive where you can download amateur recordings of books in the public domain. How did I not know about this before?
Today, I've listened to the first chapters of South! The Story of Shackleton’s Last Expedition 1914-1917,
by Ernest Shackleton. It's very calming to listen to, with the cadences of the slightly old-fashioned language, and the little flashes of humor in between the account of their progress--like how they play football on the ice floes. It's especially interesting to me, because a while ago I recorded a podfic called Not to Yield, which is a slashy Shackleton story. The author (
kassrachel) used some lines from the book in her story, and it was cool to suddenly recognize a sentence and go "Hey, I've recorded that, too!".
Anyway, check out the archive! They have tons of audiobooks available.
