General update
May. 17th, 2011 01:20 pmJust went to an on-campus lunch concert with the University of Manitoba Singers. They sang Stan Rogers' "Watching the Apples Grow" (after first asking the audience whether anyone had heard of Stan Rogers, at which I waved my hand, but I didn't see anyone else who did). Awwww.
They also sang a Swedish traditional folk song I know, which was interesting. It was like someone had told them about some of the characteristics of Swedish folk singing--like, they held long notes on the consonant and not the vowel like you usually do in Swedish folk songs (well, not consonants like "t" and "k" obviously, but ones like "n", "m" and "ng"). But they also had a vibrato, which made it sound like it was still sung in classical choir fashion.
Am feeling very good about my podficcing now. I feel like I'm better at it now than I was a year ago, and better a year ago than two years ago. And hopefully I'll keep getting better--there's lots of room both to improve and to try new things. I've had several podfics beta-listened lately, which has been very helpful.
There's a challenge at
pod_together, where a writer and a podficcer work together to produce a podfic from a story/script that was written to be performed rather than read. It'll be interesting to see how that changes the way the text is written, and I'm thinking of signing up.
Also, I had a birthday a week ago--I am now 32. Thanks to everyone who wished me happy birthday! It was a nice but undramatic one. My boyfriend made me sushi, and my parents and sister made a conference call so they could all sing for me together.
