Characters: Katy Allen, Cale Mills, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Tommy Ratliff
Summary: "Dear Adam Lambert. Hello! My name is Kristina Allen, and I live in Conway, Arkansas. My parents are Kim and Neil Allen, and I am a lesbian. What about you?"

I download a fair amount of podfic that I start listening to and then lose interest in after 10-15 minutes. This sounds kind of horrible, but the thing is, there isn't that much new podfic in my core fandoms, so I download podfics that don't rely on knowledge of canon, like SPN RPF and bandom AU:s, or podfics in fandoms that I peripherally know/like, such as Sherlock BBC or X-Men.

But the thing is, even if a story doesn't demand knowledge of canon, you might still need an emotional attachment to the characters beforehand, and if I don't have that, I often lose interest if the reading/language/plot/characterization doesn't grab me for another reason.

The reward of this strategy is that sometimes I find podfics I do enjoy that I would otherwise have missed, and this is one of them. I'm doubly surprised that I enjoyed it so much, because it's a high school/college fic, which is usually not my thing. It's a really charming story, full of the energy and innocence and excitement of youth, and the reading caught me up in that.

Relationships: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Characters: Benton Fraser, Ray Kowalski
Summary: Fraser and Ray have been talking about a particular kind of fantasy roleplay scene for a long time; it's just a matter of working out the details so they both feel safe about doing it.

I dithered for a long time over whether to read this, because it contains roleplay of a rape fantasy, and I wasn't sure if I was comfortable with that. But finally I did read it, and I enjoyed it a lot. I felt safe because the characters felt safe--the story really is full of love and consideration, and since it's [personal profile] helens78, most of the story is about the process of getting there. Also, it's a really hot story.

I'm not usually a big fan of explicit fanart (or visual representations of sex of any kind) on a visceral level. Sometimes I enjoy it on an abstract level and find it beautiful, but it doesn't usually turn me on like written things do. But wow, this fanart made me reconsider that--it is just that hot. Hmm, maybe it's hot to me in part because it's in comic form, so it is actually a story, but mostly I think it's just the awesome drawing style and all the details.
