luzula: a Luzula pilosa, or hairy wood-rush (Default)
Hi, new people! *waves* I don't have a post about me (maybe I should make one), but do ask if there's anything you want to know.

1) RL update: I am teaching an intensive calculus course now, where I lecture for 130 people at eight am each morning. So I'm glad it's the weekend now, whew. So far my voice is holding up well--it's like I've found a special lecturing mode for my voice that works for me. No news about that other job yet, even though it's been three weeks since the interview--I suspect they preferred the first person and he hasn't given a clear reply yet.

2) I finished my due South Seekrit Santa draft a while ago, and am awaiting more beta comments to see if there's anything I need to tweak. Yuletide is still not done, augh, but at least I got 700 new words yesterday.

3) Podfic rec: Two Days, written by [livejournal.com profile] tweedisgood, who is probably my favorite writer of ACD Sherlock Holmes. The reader is still anonymous, since it's a gift exchange, but I have my suspicions. Anyway, this was the perfect marriage of fic and reader--I love the story to start with, but the reader brought out even more to love. It's the kind of podfic where you want to linger to enjoy the sounds of the language, and there are some really effective choices of special effects.

Speaking of podfic, I listened to some podfic meta on accents, and there was a new Swedish podficcer there who had apparently hesitated to record, but listening to my podfics helped convince her it was okay to do it even though she had an accent. This warms my heart. Also, more Swedish podficcers! \o/

4) Am almost done with the second Steerswoman book, by Rosemary Kirstein. I am definitely won over now! I was slow to get into the first book, but I love the second one, especially the interesting worldbuilding and the female friendship.

5) I want a Fraser/Victoria vid to the Dire Straits song On Every Street. Look, it makes sense to me, okay?
