Oh, this was great. The plot is pretty standard fantasy fare, I guess (teenager comes into her magical powers), but it's just so delightfully written. It's a modern-day domestic kind of fantasy, with lots of family interaction (the siblings are particularly good) and lots of whimsy and invention when it comes to the magic. And like Robin McKinley's Sunshine, it has great baked goods. Yum. I totally shipped Gypsum/Altria--maybe that's something for next Yuletide.

About the environmental problems of mining in Sweden. There's been lots of activism around mining issues lately, and it's sometimes related to forest issues as well, so I thought I'd better read up on it. This was readable and informative.

garonne's The Way the World Is, one of the the Big Bang stories I'd been saving up. It's a really good Vecchio-POV F/K story, which is not that common a thing. Recommended. Aaand now I should probably go comment on the story, too.
