luzula: a Luzula pilosa, or hairy wood-rush (Default)
OMG, look what I made! Aaaah, I was kind of scared to push the 'post' button...I remember back in March or something, when I was vaguely contemplating this AU and thinking that probably it would be too ambitious plotwise for me ever to write it. Heh.

If you can't stomach the warning, know that I am now writing an alternate ending that branches off fairly late in the fic, and in which there is no major character death, so you can wait for that if you want. I'll put clear instructions to show where it branches off.

This is the most ambitious thing I have ever written, both when it comes to length and to plot, and I am quite proud of it! I am also very grateful to my three beta readers: [personal profile] garonne, [personal profile] hyarrowen, and [personal profile] regshoe, who have all equally helped me by cheerleading, brainstorming, and by insightful beta comments. They have spotted anachronistic word choices, plot issues that needed to fixed, and helped me with the setting, from birds to the interior of Age of Sail ships. A special thanks to [personal profile] garonne for help with the Gaelic, and to [personal profile] solo for help with the brief Scots dialogue!

More notes at AO3. Also, I will eventually podfic this, if you prefer to wait for that, but it'll take some time, which is also because I'm doing another project inbetween.
