I have by no means browsed through the whole Yuletide archive yet, but here are some recs. My method of reading is to go in reverse alphabetical order and read all the reasonably short fic (everything that's longer than about 5000 words goes on my to-read list).
my back is plenty strong (2915 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Winter's Bone (2010)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ree Dolly/Gail
Summary: Ree can carry the weight of the world on her back. She's a Dolly and Dollys find a way.
I was not at all expecting fic for this movie, but here it was and I loved it. It really captures the feeling of the movie for me. Also, the pairing makes sense to me.
Noble Experiments (2089 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Temeraire - Naomi Novik
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Temeraire, Perscitia, Iskierka
Summary: Dragons' rights and all that jazz. Or - scenes from the National Dragon's Suffrage Society visit to Chicago.
This is a really charming glimpse of what the dragons are doing in the 1920's. Plus, Iskierka as a rum-runner!
How Luther Laughed at the Devil (1013 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Hamlet - Shakespeare, Doctor Faustus - Christopher Marlowe
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: John Faustus, Hamlet (Hamlet), Horatio (Hamlet)
Summary: When a Wittenberg mathematics professor is possessed by a demon, there's only one man to whom Prince Hamlet can turn: the demonologist Doktor Faustus.
This is hilarious!
Aiyani Shuvuu (1021 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Mongolian History RPF
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Temujin/Jamukha
Characters: Jamukha
Summary: To the lonely steppe, the bird returns.
I have no idea who these people are, but there is gorgeous landscape description here, and that's enough for me.
A Secret History (2192 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Mongolian History RPF
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Original Male Character, Original Female Character
Summary: The past is never dead. It's not even past. A young man in contemporary Mongolia lives in the long shadow of history.
This fic has such an awesome sense of place! No canon knowledge needed (I certainly have none).
Gates of Horn and Ivory (302 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Sandman
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Dream of the Endless
Summary: From things known, done, thought, loved and feared, Dream of the Endless shapes dreams.
A sestina about the Dreaming!
Downstream on the Memphis Ferry (1543 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Egyptian Mythology
Rating: Not Rated
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Sobek (Egyptian Mythology)
A pretty cool modern-day fic, and the last paragraph made me shiver.
Four for Joy (3040 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Polly Churchill, Godfrey Kingsman
Summary: She had entered stage left, by a door that should have been closed; saved his life three times; and exited on her way to a wedding (if it was, indeed, a comedy.) There was also the fourth time, but they didn't talk about that.
I love Sir Godfrey's POV here, and the bits with Polly and Sir Godfrey were my favorite bits of the books.
Sorry, no dSSS recs. But I'll be doing crack van in January, and I'm sure some of the dSSS fics will end up there.
