Seattle so far

On the plus side, I have:

- met helens78!
- seen a bald eagle and lots of other cool birds
- eaten good food
- spent time with RL friends
- bought a new sleeping bag and sleeping pad at REI, much cheaper than I could've gotten them in Sweden

On the minus side, I caught a cold on Sunday : (

I am going to stay home and rest today and tomorrow and not try to meet up with anyone else, because I know it's going to get intense from Thursday on. Also, this is not fair. I had a cold last BP! I want to sing "Northwest Passage" with Ande! Arrrrrgh.

Okay, enough complaining. So I guess I should write something, then. I wanted to write a flashfic on the plane, and I did get an idea, but it quickly became clear that it would be at least a 10,000-word fic and not something I could write for a flashfic challenge. But it's a due South science fiction AU, which I've wanted to write for some time, so I am squirreling the idea away for future use. (Also, I unexpectedly wrote 1500 words on an old WIP on the plane, so I'm not complaining.)

In the meantime, someone give me a due South (or possibly Wilby Wonderful) prompt for either the "stages" challenge or the "five things" challenge, with character or pairing and a word/phrase? I have no ideas leaping at me right now.

That is very intriguing. How FK and McShep peel apart to become Benton/Rodney and RayK/John would be delightful. The latter case would be one of hair bonding with hair.

I am glad there is a potential audience for it! I commented to someone else describing my idea, but in case you didn't see it, here it is:

Fraser is a xenobiologist who comes to a planet being terraformed and discovers that it contained indigenous (but not intelligent) life which is being eradicated to make room for human expansion, which is against the law, but can be gotten around with enough bribes. Probably Fraser Sr got killed in the cover-up for this. I'd like to have Ray K come in somehow, but haven't decided how--possibly he has some kind of ties to the company doing the terraforming, or they have some kind of hold on him, and he is thus torn between helping Fraser and protecting his own skin.

It would resonate more with canon if RayK was law enforcement of some kind, don't you think? If you want to really complicate things, and have him torn in several directions, how about having his ex-wife Stella be the person with ties to the terraforming company (her dad's company, maybe)? Ray would be torn between helping Fraser, his duty, and protecting Stella (all three things priorities for him).

Whatever you decide to do, I'm looking forward to it! :D

My first idea was that Ray was working as private security for the terraforming company, but I'll have to think about it some more. And yeah, I agree that it would be good to stay reasonably close to his canon job.

And thanks for the beta offer! I'm not going to write this right now, though--I need to finish the asexual-Fraser story. Which I wrote 500 words on yesterday, so yay! \o/
