1) I posted podfic recs for Amplirecathon. Check out all the other recs, too! I have downloaded so much new stuff the last two weeks.
2) In my ongoing but very slow due South rewatch, I've reached "We Are the Eggmen". And wow, I've forgotten how good that episode is (well, except for the Ray V subplot with the lottery ticket). I love Meg here! There are none of the cringeworthy elements that make their occasional appearance in S3/4. There's Cloutier and the sexual harassment, and Meg and Fraser talking about that, and then they go do action stuff together. And I also love the egg guy and his devotion to his chickens. I am just entirely delighted by this episode.
3) After reading Dira Sudis' psychically-bonded-wolves-in-the-military series, I am wondering what could be done with that in due South (yes, I know
petra wrote it already, but it was set in Monette/Bear's original world, not in the modern day). I mean, obviously the RCMP would have bonded wolves, and Dief is bonded to Fraser. But aside from that, I can't figure out what the angle would be. Hmmmm. This is similar to my thoughts on a His Dark Materials AU for due South. I mean, it's obvious that Dief would be Fraser's daemon, but I can't figure out what one would do with it besides that.
OTOH, I do someday intend to turn Dief into a dragon and write a Temeraire AU, and I know exactly what I want to do with that.
And while I'm talking about AU:s, do go and answer
sage's poll about a due South AU challenge!

Date: 2012-07-31 11:11 pm (UTC)Or would Dief periodically turn into a human? Like a werewolf would?
Not being familiar with Dira's fic, since I don't know the crossover fandom, I wasn't sure. I generally don't read werewolf fandoms. So this is all new to me, but anything Due South is always intriguing, and I adore Dief in wolf or human form!

Date: 2012-08-01 09:04 am (UTC)But yes, I do love the idea of Dief being a were-human, as well!
I do like werewolf fics, but often what I want out of them isn't what other people want from them, so I often start reading a werewolf fic and then go "oh, hmm, this one isn't for me".

Date: 2012-07-31 11:40 pm (UTC)I just want to register my SHEER DELIGHT for this sentence, because that's an AU idea that is close to my heart, but I will never ever write it, so I'm delighted that you have Intentions. :D

Date: 2012-08-01 09:19 am (UTC)I do have Intentions! Basically, the fic would have the plot of the pilot, with Bob being murdered and Fraser chasing his killers to Chicago. But Bob was in the Royal Canadian Aviator Corps and was captain of Dief (I might have to change his name though, since he's older now), who is an Arctic breed used to patrol the north (he probably has feathers for insulation!) So anyway, a lot of the fic will be relationship development between Dief and Fraser when Fraser takes over as Dief's captain. Imagine living up to your father's image in his dragon's eyes! (Hmm, maybe Bob will haunt them both? Or hmm, maybe he'll just haunt Dief, and Fraser will feel kind of left out?) Anyway, Fraser and Dief are kind of old-fashioned, because in the modern day, most dragons aren't bonded to anyone, and both dragons and people look at them kind of oddly. Also, there will be action-y casefic shenanigans with Ray and Ray (I'll probably make them partners so both can be there). The fic will probably be gen, because the relationship between Fraser and Dief will be the central one.

Now I'm wondering how the whole sentient being=personhood and emancipation/civil rights thing would play out with Dragon!Dief.
Wow. My brain loves this whole 'verse. *more hearts*
