Swing dancing!
Oct. 20th, 2012 09:06 pmI went to a workshop on 1920's charleston solo dancing today! Wow, so much fun. It took a little while before I got the basic rhythm of it--the steps are in half-tempo, but you're supposed to sort of bounce up and down in full tempo. But when it finally clicked, it was so cool. There's a swing dancing club in town that does courses and dance nights with lindy hop, charleston, balboa, etc, and I hang out there sometimes.
I have this ridiculous fantasy of going swing dancing with the 1940's Ray Kowalski of Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. I think those dance styles would really suit him.

Date: 2012-10-22 09:43 am (UTC)No, they didn't! And Wikipedia has nothing to say about the origin of the word...maybe something about swinging back and forth?
