Various fannish pursuits

1) I posted some podfic recs over at Amplirecathon. Check out the other recs as well! I have gotten recced multiple times, which is making me happy. I am especially glad that Horseshoes and Hand Grenades got recced, because I am still so proud of that podfic. Also, there's a new podfic reccing comm: podfic_love! Check it out. I will be reccing for them in August.

2) I forgot that I hadn't posted this in my journal, so for completeness' sake: while I was away in the mountains, there was a posting weekend for the AU challenge. podfic_lover and I collaborated on an apocalyptic podfic: Wars Not Yet Dreamed Of, by abbybanks. I am really happy with how it came out! And sage posted a snippet for me, with the working title of Mountie!Caroline. The premise is that Bob was shot instead of Caroline when Benton was young. Sad to say, I haven't done any more work on that since--the thing is, my Big Bang fic is also an AU of the pilot, and I couldn't hold them both in my head at the same time.

3) Speaking of my Big Bang fic (the Temeraire/due South fusion), it's now at 17,000 words, and is fairly close to being done, but I am not sure if it will reach 20K. Feel free to kick me in the butt and tell me to finish it...

4) I have already decided exactly what I want to request for Yuletide, barring new fandoms that take me by storm. Am I the only one?

I was just so surprised that there was, like, no Laurie/Andrew at all in the AO3! And I quite liked them together, so I'd love to read some.

I've never done Yuletide. It just seems so intimidating, somehow? Maybe because its existence requires that it be very multifannish, and I never can seem to come up with enough things that I could create for to participate.

Yeah, I really should set up some writing time every day to get it done! I think you get a pass because you have finals? But I promise to kick you in the pants after that. : )

I was intimidated by Yuletide, too, and for quite a while I thought I'd never participate. But it turned out I could actually write in more fandoms than I thought? I did a sort of "test run" by writing a New Year's Resolution story before actually participating. And I've written some things for it that I'm pretty proud of and that would never exist if I hadn't participated, so I'm glad I can do it!

I am actually not ready for Yuletide yet at all! I keep thinking I have some requests, but fandom keeps surprising me and making these things into fairly large Fandoms instead, so? I think I'll have to wait and see. (I want to know what you've selected, but I think I am going to wait and pester you about it when we meet, because I loooove Yuletide conversations.)

Hee, yeah, we can talk Yuletide in a couple of weeks. Also, I listened to the audiometa and enjoyed it a lot! We can talk about that then, as well. : )

I've listened to the first five eps of Welcome to Night Vale. I'm enjoying it, but it seems to be very episodic and fragmentary? Will there be actual plot at some point?

WTNV is very fragmentary. It really is mostly like community news. Some characters are recurring, and Cecil/Carlos plods steadily along, but there's no plot per se... Mostly I'm there for the world-building, and I love to imagine exploring the news stories in greater detail (how exactly did that PTA meeting go? etc)

Actually I haven't read the Temeraire stories, but I know there are dragons, and that's enough for me.
