But I do talk to (imaginary versions of) RL people that I know, and what you say about using that to work out problems that can't necessarily be resolved in real life makes a lot of sense. Come to think of it, I probably get my social needs met while I'm isolated up in the mountains by being good at talking to people in my head.
As long as a person is clear on what's imaginary and can readily engage with things that are real, then there's no harm.
