Xena + Gravity + new podfic!

So I and my former-blind-date K watched Xena yesterday. K really loves that show and wanted me to love it too, and yes, I enjoyed it a lot! (For frayadjacent: we ended up watching Callisto, Return of Callisto, Destiny, The Debt 1 and 2, and The Bitter Suite. That last one ended up being a little too spaced out for me, though. *g*) I checked AO3 for fic, and really? There's only 182 Xena/Gabrielle fics on there? I mean, I knew femslash is less popular overall, but...damn, that's really not a lot. Would take fic recs.

Tonight I went to the movies with my dad, and we watched Gravity, which I enjoyed. I'm glad I watched it on a big screen, and I think it was the first movie I've ever seen that actually gained something from the 3D format (not that I've seen many 3D movies, but I didn't think it worked for Avengers, for example). Anyway, gorgeous visuals, and it really had me in suspense.

Oh hey, and I've recorded a podfic! I haven't made any for months due to various RL factors, but akamine_chan and I signed up for the lightning round of pod-together, and despite both of us being really busy we managed to collaborate on a Watership Down podfic, which you can listen to here: El-ahrairah and the Starstone. I've never collaborated with Aka before and I was very happy to do it with this story. ♥ Also, I am SO VERY HAPPY that podficcing is possible in my new place after all! Apparently the Zoom mike is more directional than I thought, because it doesn't pick up the cars at all. \o/ I'm also grateful to remopodmo for helping me break through my podblock.

I was never a big Xena fan, but I remember loving the hell out of the Callisto episodes. :D You might ask glitteryv for recs - that was her fandom back in the day.

Xena is one of those things that if I ever had enough free time, I plan to mainline. I'm pretty sure I'd love it. The world definitely needs more Xena/Gabrielle though!

I know, it feels so good! I have a feeling I won't have time to be as prolific as I was before, though.

Pretty sure I won't be mainlining it--again, I just don't have the time. But I'll probably be watching more of it with K.

It's been ages since I was in the fandom (uh, 1999-2001?), but there was a whole bunch of fic back then... Most of it's probably still only archived on old school sites like the Royal Academy of Bards..?

Ah, okay, that's probably the explanation--that it's an old fandom and most of its fic hasn't migrated to the AO3.

That's a nice group of Xena eps! Though I was a bit puzzled by "The Bitter Suite", since it's the second of a two-parter. But I like all those other eps a lot -- glad you enjoyed!

Well, K told me the backstory? But yeah, it didn't work that well as a standalone even with that, plus it was late at night and I was kind of sleepy by that time.

I did really like all the other episodes, though. : )

I'm glad you liked them. I have to confess that even knowing the backstory, I found "The Bitter Suite" a bit too odd. but I think I'm in the minority of Xena fans on that one!

Xena fandom came and pretty much went before AO3 existed*. HUGE fandom though. The Atheneum has approx one miiillion fics.

Yeah, that's what I suspected--that the fandom is old enough that the fics haven't migrated to the AO3.

Also, I actually found a large batch of Xena podfics from 2007 on the audiofic archive with a really good reader, so I guess I'll be listening to those.

I remember Xena as a huge fandom, but that was a very long time ago, and I'm guessing much is lost. Googling, or using fandom history sites, would be your best bet. :(

I dunno, it's not like I think this will be my next fandom love or anything, but I will check out the links I've gotten in the comments above, at least. : ) I'll be interested to see if the style of the fics is what I think of as "old-school" style.
