Holiday writing + singing

Er, I know I haven't done many of the December meme topics, but I promise I'll get around to them all some time. I've been working hard to get my holiday fics done and revised/edited on time. I think I will succeed, although sadly I am not happy with this year's dSSS. /o\ Ah well, at least it fulfills the recipient's request. Also, I have written two Yuletide fics and am happy with both.

Have a recording of my sister and me singing Silent Night/Night of Silence! I'm the one singing Silent Night, and she's doing the other one (and playing the guitar).

That's the first time I've heard "Night of Silence," and your performance is so ringed round with warm energy. I adore that counterpointing of one song against another, especially new against classic. The only other I can recall is a really an early 1970s Simon & Garfunkel song called Scarborough Fair/Canticle. I'm hoping you know some more.

I'm sorry that your dSSS isn't making you squee, and I am confident it will make your recipient happy because you're an adept writer and plotter.

I know and love this song so I hope you don't mind I was singing with you. Always love it when you sing and you and your sister blend so well. You can tell you've been singing together a long time.

Thanks! Yeah, I love contrasting one song against another like that, too. I do know "Scarborough Fair/Canticle". The others that spring to mind for me are "Safe In My Garden" with The Mamas and the Papas, and "Kate and the Ghost of Lost Love" with Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, but I'm sure there are others.

I discovered "Night of Silence" recently, actually, while looking around for new Christmas songs. I love songs with completely different melodies that you can sing together like that, so I knew we had to learn it.

Sure, it would be fun to try! I guess we could do it over Skype, if we each record our own part separately, and then we could put the two tracks together. Although there would be a problem with keeping in tune, because it's impossible to both talk/sing at the same time and hear both parts if you're on Skype or on a phone. I've tried it. Possibly the best way is for one person to record the melody and then send it to the other, to record the harmony as a separate track?

Are you a soprano or an alto? Any ideas for songs you want to do?

Yeah, I was thinking that having one person record a track and send it to the other to sing along with while recording their own track might work best.

I'm...well, I used to be an alto and now I've turned into a soprano, but I still have the low notes (I could sing along with your voice on this recording, for example), it's just that the notes around D-above-middle-C are softer than everything else.

As for songs, I dunno: we could try for something fandom-related if we wanted to try to fit a fan-flashworks prompt or the like. (Stan Rogers? Though he tends towards multi-verse ballads.) Or there are carols and folksongs -- you seem to know some of the English-language repertoire of those?

Hmm, yeah, I do like Stan Rogers. I'll think about which one we could do. "45 Years" is nice? Or, hmm, I don't know if you've heard my due South filk version of Northwest Passage? Maybe we could collaborate on writing another filk song? Now that I think of it, I actually have one that I wrote years ago that I never recorded, though again, it has tons of verses. And yes, I do love folk songs!
