Ferdydurke, by Witold Gombrowicz
For my book club at work. Ha, this was a weird but really interesting and entertaining book! It's a book from the 1930's about an adult man who is reduced to a boy again because a schoolmaster comes and treats him like a boy. Basically, I read it as being about how we are formed by the way others see us. The book is hard to describe, though, because the style and the events are very absurd. I liked that about it, though--it's kind of like crackfic at times? I suppose the thing I didn't like is that it's kind of hopeless in that no one in the book ever really makes a genuine connection to someone else, even though they try. All their interactions are mediated through social pressures and ideologies.

AWESOME political book. Not available in English (and it's geared toward Sweden, anyway), but I recommend it to Scandinavians. Will give it to my mom as a birthday present.
