I can't speak

1. So, I've overtaxed my voice by too much teaching. The doctor said I shouldn't talk at all for a week, and then see how I feel.

This is frustrating. I want to call people on the phone, and record podfic, and sing. Right now I'm compensating by making a list of rare fandom fics that I want to record for next year's amplificathon. Lists are satisfying.

AND AT LEAST I CAN STILL SHOUT ON THE INTERNETS.

2. I just browsed a magazine with a sex ed column. Here are questions from teenage girls:

"Can I get pregnant from masturbating?"
"I had sex with another girl, am I still a virgin? And am I not normal if I like to suck on her toes?"

Oh, girls. &hearts

3. I signed up for stop_drop_porn. This is kind of scary, but I guess the worst that can happen is that I drop out or write bad porn. I haven't written much for a month or so, but I think I'm getting back into it.

1. You are doing exactly right about the voice thing but it's HARD! I work for an ENT practice and know for a fact there is no way around just totally resting the voice.

The last time I lost mine I was in England visiting fangirl friends and I hadn't come all that way to not talk to people but I really paid for that. It was a month before I could talk properly and two months before I could sing again.

3. I did too; I must be insane!

1. Yeah, it's funny. I'm pretty much monofannish except for all those rare fandoms I also like. I have a lot of great stories picked out.

3. I've never done one of those short notice things, but I figure that since there's no lower word limit, I can always write a snippet if I fail at something longer. And thanks for the offer, but if I know myself, I'll probably keep writing until the last minute.

1. Good to know that I'm doing the right thing. This has gotten gradually worse over a couple of weeks, and it's hard when it's my work--I mean, I care about my course and my students. But yeah, my voice is just more important, so I asked my boss to find a substitute for me.
