General update

The term is almost over, and I am so ready for it. I just have to make the exam and then graaaaade it, and after that I will go work up in the mountains for three weeks or so. I managed to get leave from work to do that, which means that I'm having vacation on top of that, so basically my whole summer will be freeee time. \o/ After my work in the mountains I'm organizing an activism-related tree climbing course (with climbing equipment and everything), and then doing forest inventories for a week. Also podfic_lover is coming to visit, and we'll probably go hiking up in the far north where Sweden, Finland, and Norway meet!

EU elections, yeah. The Swedish semi-fascist party got 10%, which, augh. Not as bad as Britain or France, but still. OTOH, Sweden now has a feminist party which got into the parliament with 5.3%, which is pretty cool! I almost voted for them but then went for the left party instead.

Looking at the map of Europe, it seems to be the countries that did have fascist rule in the mid-20th century which don't have growing fascist movements now? Germany, Spain and to a lesser degree Italy all seem to be relatively free of it. Hmm.

That really sucks about the fascist parties. Any idea what's driving it? Is it coming out of all the Austerity measures?

I can only speculate, of course, but I think it's growing economic inequality and lack of jobs? And not necessarily coming from those on the bottom who can't get jobs--I think it's just as much middle-class people driven by the fear of falling.
