Some fics I've enjoyed up in the mountains:
A brisk young sailor, by
naraht (The Charioteer, 41,000 words)
Backstory for Ralph Lanyon in The Charioteer. You could read this without knowing canon: it's basically the story of a lieutenant in the Navy during WWII who is unrequitedly in love with one of his junior officers. Very well written, with a vivid sense of place and time. Although perhaps I should warn you that it does not have a happy ending.
Glaive and Hill and the Matter of the Sapphic Society, by Ogiwara Saki
This is technically original fic, I guess, but it's so obviously a femslash version of Sherlock Holmes that it's not even trying to hide it. Glaive = Holmes, but Hill is more like a really interesting version of Mrs Hudson, actually? Or maybe Watson and Hudson merged into one character. I really liked her. Anyway, this story is utterly delightful and you should go read it now!
Annum Novum, by
exeterlinden (The Eagle, Marcus/Esca, 14,000 words)
This is a quiet and domestic post-canon story, with a lot of attention paid to the setting and what kind of life they might lead together. Maybe I should say that I beta-read this, but it was juuust before the Yuletide deadline, so I think I mostly just fixed a couple of small things and reassured Linden that it worked. Anyway, I really like it.
Domina, by
Island_of_Reil (The Eagle, Cottia/Marcus, Cottia/Esca, Marcus/Esca, 48,000 words)
I really liked that this is so entirely from Cottia's POV--like, there are some fics where Cottia is basically an outside POV on Marcus and Esca, but that is really not what's going on here. I also like that there's a community around the three of them, and all the details of daily life in it. Also there's some really hot het sex.
The things we aren't saying, by
Deputychairman (due South, F/K, Vecchio, 5000 words)
This is really adorable trope fic, the trope in question being "handcuffed together". Only the people being handcuffed together aren't the main pairing, but of course it leads to awkward conversation and revelations anyway. Anyway, this fic is guaranteed to make you go "awww."
