Meme + the problem of the dishes

Yeah, not really doing that meme everyone's doing. Although I might go back to last year's and try to do the topics that people asked me about and I never got around to. *facepalm* That said, if there's something you really want to hear me talk about, feel free to ask. : )

We had a house meeting tonight, and brainstormed about how to solve the Problem of the Dishes In the Sink (and On the Counter). We didn't want to do the angry note thing, so we came up with the choose-your-own-motivation note where everyone would say what would motivate them to do their dishes. It looked like this:

Persons A and B: Just do the damn dishes, for fuck's sake.
Person C: If you do the dishes you get chocolate!
Person D: You can't expect others to do their share if you don't do yours.
Me: If you do the dishes you can listen to your audiobook a little longer!

We left spaces for the people who weren't there to fill in for themselves. Now let's see if it works...

I wish we had house meetings. But there are only two of us, so I don't think it would work. I like the choose-your-own notes.

24 hours later, the dishes are still there. We'll see who takes mercy on them. I dunno, I just resist doing it because I know none of them are mine--I always do mine immediately after cooking/eating. *is all virtuous*

We'll see if it works--24 hours later, the dishes are still there. : ( I am just reluctant to do them because I know none of them are mine. I still find the note charming, though!

*commiserates and rants about the dirty dishes* At my workplace people are always leaving dirty dishes in the sink, and it appears that I am the only one bothered by it. If I don't wash the dishes they just sit there for weeks, so eventually I'm the one who does them because I'm the one who just can't stand it any more.

Yeah, getting people to do their own dish-washing is one of those periennial problems of the human existence, I guess. : )

Hee! That's similar to my bribing myself to the gym because I can read while I'm exercising (if the music isn't too loud).

Meme question: Listening to audio books vs reading -- the experience of it, whether you visualise as you read, and how that's affected, etc. :-)

I read my kindle on the arc trainer (which is like a cross-trainer without arm bits).

I gave the same prompt to Isis, jsyk. I'm curious about these things, since I've never got into audiobooks (I can't multitask... though I have been listening to short stories in the bath).
