I've had this in my bookcase forever, and figured it was time to read it. It reminds me a bit of Good Omens, in that it is fantasy with Christian elements. But meh, it never gripped me as Good Omens did. There were actually various elements I liked, and it's well written and all, but it just...didn't grip me. Ah well, now I can weed it out.
Cronopios and Famas by Julio Cortázar (originally in Spanish, read in Swedish)
For my book club at work. It's a collection of (very) short stories. This was one of those books that are improved by discussion--when I read it on my own I wasn't immediately caught up because of the shortness and disconnectedness and absurdity of the stories. But they grew on me when we talked about them.
The Hearts of Horses by Molly Gloss
I felt like reading something I knew I'd enjoy, so I picked this one, which I've been saving up because I love the author's work in general. And oh, what a lovely book! It's about a young woman who breaks in horses in the Pacific NW during WWI; many of the men are out in the war. The storytelling and setting is engaging, as are the characters. I just wanted to stay in this book and didn't want it to end. Recommended!
