luzula: a Luzula pilosa, or hairy wood-rush (Default)
On Thursday I'm leaving for my job in the mountains, which is so much greatness. Right now I'm thinking about what food to bring--I have to buy all my food for a month and get it carried up by helicopter, and that means careful planning. They do have a gas-driven refrigerator, though, and kind of a freezer dug into the left-over snow, so it's not like it all has to be dried food.

I am bringing lots of stuff to read--for example, I have some unread fandom classics saved up, like [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel's "Near Wild Heaven", and I'll be rereading "Hawks and Hands" (I've only read it once). Also carefully selected music on my mp3-player, my butterfly net and botany books. A guy who was up there earlier in the spring actually had some kind of mental breakdown, but he was all alone for a month and I'll be there with at least two other people, whom I know to be nice.

It remains to be seen how much I can write on a computer (they have some solar panels for electricity), but I guess I can always write longhand. My Maggie/Frannie WIP seems to have come to life again after months of dormancy--I've written 1200 words on it today, which is yay. I'd really like to finish that one some day.

Does anyone want a postcard from the Swedish Arctic? You can email me your address if I haven't got it and you want one!

So, I'll be here for a few more days, after that I'll be back on the Internet on the 18th of August.
