This is the first year I participated, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Uh, that didn't come out right: what I mean is that I'd been scared of the commitment, but it turns out that sometimes, deadlines are your friend.

So, I received V1K-T0R-1A, by [livejournal.com profile] rubberbutton. First, it's a science fiction AU, which is awesome. There aren't nearly enough of those in due South. It's also an interesting exploration of what can happen if you tweak Victoria's Secret a bit. Of course, the main thing that's changed here is that she isn't human, but that actually doesn't matter so much. It reinforces her status as an outcast, which probably makes Fraser all the more likely to want to save her. I like the way that she seems to be innocent at the outset here, but she's still ruthless. [livejournal.com profile] rubberbutton, thanks for writing it for me! I really liked it.

I wrote Telling Stories for [personal profile] nos. It's also a Fraser/Victoria story, but a rather different one. Or maybe not--basically, it's Victoria stuck in prison and obsessing over all the possible ways things could have gone and can go. So in a way, it's a collection of fork-in-the-road AU:s. It's the first time I write Victoria POV, and I'm surprised at how easy it was.

Next year, I want to do Yuletide. I plan to write a NYR story during this year, and if I manage that, I'll sign up for Yuletide.
