Women Incendiaries by Edith Thomas (1963, original in French)
When I read that graphic novel about Louise Michel, I wanted it to dig deeper into the Paris Commune and give more details on how they concretely tried to realize their ideas. Well, if you want details, this is the book. It is chock full of details and references, sometimes almost too much of them. It focuses specifically on women's participation in the political life and military defense of the Commune, and it's quite interesting.
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin (1969, audiobook read by Ruth Stokesberry)
Listened to this while hiking. Probably my fourth reread? It is both one of my favorite books ever and one of my favorite audiobooks. If you enjoy audiobooks, do give it a try! It's so immersive and I love her voice.
I feel more and more that the gender aspects of this book have aged a bit; possibly these feelings may come out in fic at some point. But there are so many other aspects of the book. I find what it's saying about nationalism really interesting, I love the descriptions of the winter journey, I love Therem as a character, I love the relationship that develops between Therem and Genly. Aaaaah, I just love this book. ♥
