Birth + housing
May. 26th, 2015 10:24 pm1) Aaaah, my sister is giving birth! This feels so weird. Also, nervous. The water just went, but she hasn't actually started having labor cramps or whatever you call it, so it could be a while yet, I guess. *frets*
2) Distracting myself with further posting. News of house hunting: I went to an interview at a shared house today. Pros: close to a friend of mine, close to nature, they seemed nice. Cons: expensive rent, shared vegan cooking schedule. Don't get me wrong, vegan food is fine and I'm good at cooking it, but I'd prefer not to eat vegan food for dinner all the time. They weren't hard-line no-cow-milk-across-our-doorstep vegans, though, so it would be doable. They had lots of other candidates, though, so we'll see how it goes.
I also called another place and set up a meeting, though I haven't been there yet. Pros: mixed age group (one of them is 59), cheap rent, the person I spoke to on the phone seemed nice. Cons: you can't have your mobile phone on while in the apartment, because one of them is worried about radiation. I dunno, this would actually not be a huge sacrifice for me, since I don't have a smart phone, and they have a landline. But it makes me wonder a bit--I do not know of any evidence that someone using a mobile phone a room away from you can have negative health effects.

Unless this is somewhere very remote, I would have thought there were bound to be many other sources of radio waves.

Date: 2015-05-27 01:34 pm (UTC)No, it's an apartment in the middle of town, so there are definitely other sources of radio waves. I dunno, if this is as far as it goes (switching off my mobile phone while at home) I guess I can do it--I'm just afraid that this will go along with other attitudes that will make me not want to live there. But we'll see.

Date: 2015-05-28 08:28 pm (UTC)I was there and it felt like an isolated thing that I could easily deal with. Like, there was not a general air of pseudoscience and New Age around the place. : ) So I'm going to say yes to them, but OTOH they have various other candidates, so we'll see.

Date: 2015-05-27 07:30 pm (UTC)I can see that! I once hung out with a very pleasant group of Christians who, on realising that I was a biologist, asked me to give a lecture on the evidence against evolution :(
