Goals bingo for 2016
Jan. 14th, 2016 10:46 pmRight, here are the 25 goals for my 2016 bingo card, divided into categories (whether they're new goals, unfinished goals from last year, goals I already accomplished last year, etc).
unfinished goals from last year that I am keeping:
- change banks
- record 3h of podfic
- record four podcasts [related to my environmental work]
- write a scientific article together with Senior Scientist Guy from my summer mountain work
- work out/lift weights at least once a week
- do salary negotiations with my union [insert boring explanation about Swedish labor practices]
finished goals from last year that I am doing again:
- make a new friend
- sleep 20 nights outside/in a tent
- go to some activity/meeting which sounds interesting but is out of my comfort zone or that I have never done before
- see ten new species of vascular plants in Sweden
goals from last year that I am developing/changing:
- spend 24 hours in a tree (was: spend a night in a tree, which I did)
- take part in at least two union negotiations/actions (was: be active in my local syndicalist worker's union throughout the year, which I did)
- help arrange the May Day march (was: see just above)
- read < 1/3 American books (was: read 52 books, which I did - but I discovered that half of all the books I read were from the US)
- go swimming in 20 new lakes/places by the sea (was: go swimming in 10 new lakes/places by the sea, which I did)
- record an album with my sister (was: harmonize ten new songs with my sister, which I halfway did)
- perform somewhere together with my sister (was: harmonize ten new songs with my sister, which I halfway did)
new goals:
- get a tattoo
- see twenty new species of mosses in Sweden
- see five new hoverfly species (I haven't looked at hoverflies in two years or so--I mostly just want to get back into it)
- go to one of the Swedish national parks I haven't been to
- geek out in the south (context: I spent a lot of last year's outdoors/nature geekytimes in the north of Sweden)
- hike in the mountains (I didn't do this last year, and I especially want to hike in Padjelanta, where I haven't been in the summertime)
- make lots of jam in the berry/fruit season
- find a new research collaboration/project

Date: 2016-01-15 02:30 pm (UTC)I have a Hennessy hammock that I slept in a lot last summer, so I just put the hammock up in a tree. I had to find a good place to put it, with sturdy branches at each end and nothing in the way between them. I did that during the day, so I could just climb up at night. Still, it was a bit of a hassle to climb up when I was tired and ready to go to bed--I had to concentrate so that I was getting the safety stuff right. And then I kept my harness on at night, anchoring it to a branch overhead (I'm not likely to fall out of the hammock, but I wouldn't feel safe otherwise). I thought the harness would be uncomfortable to sleep in, but it wasn't much. I did not need to pee at night, but at other times I've experimented with peeing up in a tree and it works fine--what you can do is pull your pants down while still wearing the harness, and just go. You'll be mooning anyone below and peeing on whatever is below the tree, but it works fine (and of course it's easier for those who have a penis).
Er, I hope the tangent at the end was not too much information. : )
