I've enjoyed several of Maitland's novels, in particular "Home Truths" http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/411852409 A black-sheep daughter returns to her family after a traumatic amputation while,passing through an African war. Maitland is very perceptive on mother-daughter relations -- after all that's True North's central drama
Her more recent stuff focuses on spiritually, religion, and living all alone with sheep. Doesn't particularly appeal.
