I like epistolary stories, so I enjoyed that aspect of it, and the various views on the main character. OTOH she was very unsympathetic, so I can't say it gripped me as much as other Austen books.
In the Labyrinth of Drakes by Marie Brennan (#4 in the Memoirs of Lady Trent series)
19th-century female naturalist travels the world to study dragons. Still A+ entertainment! And unexpectedly this book really worked for me as a het romance, to the extent that I went back to reread scenes. I think it helped that the romance is not the A plot, but they start off as friends and colleagues and the the romance develops over time inbetween the other stuff that happens.
