One month left to go! By now a lot of my new species come from going through mosses, lichens and critters I collected earlier in the year. Though I have also gone out to look at new things, among other things I went on a lichen excursion led by one of Sweden's foremost lichen experts (um, I was slightly starstruck, although he was very nice and down-to-earth). Couldn't count all the stuff he showed us, though, on the principle that I have to feel I could identify it myself.

I'd love to hear about your favorite other vertebrate, when you have time.

Ha ha, no. Very far from it. Also I am better at mosses than lichens.

The "other vertebrates" group consists of nine mammals, five amphibians, five fishes, and four reptiles. Favorite, hmm. It was fun to see a salamander, I never have before. Also, seals are adorable. The ones I saw were harbor seals, which are called "chubby seals" in Swedish. Awww.

I will probably do a ridiculously detailed post about my species-sightings at New Year's...
