Divided Allegiance by Elizabeth Moon (#2 in the Paksenarrion series)
My cold is better, but the comfort read continues. Aaaah, I want more fic for this. Maybe after this immersion I will be inspired myself...there's a lot of worldbuilding stuff only hinted at in the books that I would love to see explored. Like, the Kuakgannir are really interesting. And I would so love to see older Paks as a mentor--the mentoring stuff we already see in the books is so satisfying to me.

Wage Slaves by Daria Bogdanska (only in Swedish)
Autobiographical graphic novel by a Polish immigrant to Sweden, about her struggle against the shitty job system, and her relationships, etc. I liked it. Funny about people's self-image--she portrays herself as very plain, but her photo in the back is anything but, IMO.

jesse_the_k: The smoking pipe from Magritte's "Treachery of Images" itself captioned in French script "this is not a pipe" captioned "not an icon" (alanna is amazed)

re: unflattering graphic self-portraits. This seems to be a signature move. Particularly savage images appear in Julia Wirtz' and Joe Sacco's books. The disconnect between the voice in our head and the voice on tape is transposed to the visual in this case.
