On Becoming a Fairy Godmother by Sara Maitland
A collection of short stories where the common theme is middle-aged women. Some are fantasy and some aren't. And some are really funny. I liked it!

The History of Russia by Mark Steinberg (audiobook lecture series)
Inspired by sage's interest in Russia and its history, I decided to listen to this. I knew almost nothing about Russia pre-1850, so this was interesting. Lots of interesting stuff I didn't know about the period after, too.

Isn't Russia fascinating? It's like a petrie dish of terrible choices with a mad scientist testing variables for maximum chaos. At least the room down the hall is filled with brilliant artists...?

Oops, late reply. But yes, it is fascinating! Such a contrast between different more-or-less totalitarian systems and then the people who dream of something else. And then how those dreams go wrong.
