Upload of podfics to AO3 progressing slowly but surely. Yeah, people were right that it was a good idea to finally put them up there--one of them already got 59 hits. : )

Meanwhile, it is apparently the season of classic YA fantasy.

The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper
Reread. I really ought to have read this in winter instead of in the summer heat--it's got such a good winter feeling. This is probably the book in the series that I remembered best, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway. It strikes me that Will hasn't really got a lot of choice in his actions--he's following a pattern that's laid out and has to be enacted just so. But still, the setting and sense of discovery is delightful, and I like how it feels rooted in place and history.

The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope
Awww, everyone was right that this was completely charming. I did side-eye the men proclaiming who they would marry without actually asking first, but with Peaceable and Barbara it felt okay, because it's clear she can make up her own mind and besides, she pretty much has the power of life and death over him on several occasions. I enjoyed their battles of wit a lot--they had great chemistry. Also Peaceable and Richard's. With Pat and Peggy I liked the proclamation of marriage less, but their romance got so much less space overall that I felt a bit "wait, what?" when they got together, even though it was obvious that's where it was heading. In conclusion, "Peaceable Drummond Sherwood" is a delightful name. And now I'm off to check AO3 for fic...

There's some great fic. The Zenna Henderson crossover especially is amazing—you don't need to know that canon, particularly, and it's just long and delicious and wonderful.

Actually I've read that one already, just because it's by Ione and I love her work! Also I've read the Zenna Henderson canon. But I remember being slightly confused by all the historical figures because I hadn't read The Sherwood Ring, so I should probably reread it.

INDEED The Sherwood Ring is a delight! Have you read The Perilous Gard? That is her one other book and it is less zany but imo even better.

I have read and enjoyed that one, too! Both were good, but I was in the mood for something light-hearted right now, so The Sherwood Ring was a perfect fit.

Thanks -- I thought I was confused! AO3 does generate a fair hit count for podfics but be warned the rate of kudos/comments appears to be well down on textual stories.

Yeah, I'm expecting that. I did get a couple of kudos/comments since uploading, though! Although I'm cheating a bit to post these as new works instead of backdating them--if I did that probably no one would see them unless they were searching for that specific thing... maybe I'll go back to backdate later.
