Reread. The SF bits are good, but actually it's the characters and what happens with them that I care most about. ♥ And KSR is such a good nature writer, too. I do not actually believe in the speed of the terraforming, even with all the scientific detail. But it would be nice to think so, and I am happy to suspend disbelief.

Apparently this will be a TV series soon? *boggles* I will be almost afraid to watch it, I think, because how much I have my own images of the characters.

Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper
Reread. I find that I like this last book least, I think because it feels like several quests patched together, compared to the previous books which had one each. So it's less of a whole story. And I find the ending both satisfying and not (which is of course why all the fix-it fic, heh). But I do like Merriman's speech at the end about the world being in the hands of ordinary humans now.

I am happy to say that I feel enthusiastic about Yuletide this year after skipping it last year--I think I'm going to request both of these canons, actually.

It's been a while since I last read Silver On The Tree, but your thoughts match up with mine. It felt a lot more disjointed than the other books, and at the end I had a strange feeling of abandonment.

I'd be very happy to read any fic you wrote for this series! :)
