Tulku by Peter Dickinson
My third Dickinson, and it's my least favorite so far--The Blue Hawk is a beloved childhood favorite which holds up for me still, and The Ropemaker is a fun and inventive YA fantasy I read last year. Which is not to say that I disliked this book, far from it. I liked the first half best, when they're walking through China and you're getting to know the characters. I like the setting and landscape description, and Mrs Jones is an interesting character.

Tillbaka till henne by Sara Lövestam (Back To Her, only in Swedish)
Oh, excellent. This is the story of a lesbian Swedish suffragette and her life, with lovers, work and activism, alternating with the story of a modern-day woman who finds her letters and diary. I really enjoyed it--there are feel-good elements, but it also put tears in my eyes several times. I wish it was available in English so that more people could read it.

Mmmm, the Lövestam sounds wonderful! Somehow I assumed Swedes were so progressive that suffragettes weren't necessary. (Must have been a passing brain fart).

Tangentially, I finished Sally Heathcote: Suffragette, a lovely graphic novel about the English campaigners. I didn't know how violent their struggle was: bomb throwing, forced feeding, prison strikes.

I've probably nattered to you before about Peter Dickinson's morbid murder mysteries -- he loves mocking the ruling classes, which always deserve some disrespect.

Okay but that second book sounds 100% up my alley. Will this be the book that makes me attempt reading Swedish??

Ooh, "Tillbaka till henne" sounds very interesting! Definitely going on my to-read list. Really need to read books in my first language a little more often XD

Far too easy. Swedish is such a small language in the global sense, and even when you live in Sweden the flood of English books tends to drown things out (especially if one, like me, mostly read Fantasy/Science Fiction/Horror). Again, thanks for the great book tips!
