Fix things Friday (er, Saturday)
Sep. 9th, 2017 12:43 pmIn the last two weeks I have:
- Attended training session on the union's new membership registry system (I will not actually work with it much, but it's good to know generally how it works).
- Answered questions from and helped coordinate the new elected officers in the union.
- Written and sent out the monthly email newsletter for the union.
- Called new members of the union to welcome them and invite them to an introductory meeting and then held that meeting.
- Compiled and edited the text of the next newsletter for environmental organization and sent it to the layout person (this is 14 pages, so it's a bit of work).
- Put up various stuff on the website of environmental organization.
- Asked around to find out how much was left of a pamphlet (don't know if this is the right word, it's 34 pages) about forest issues that I wrote years ago; it appears there are not many left and I should revise it and write a motion to get a new edition printed at the next annual meeting of environmental organization.
- Donated a fairly large chunk of money to International Planned Parenthood.
- Eeeemailed.
One of the new elected officials in the union is a retired guy who came to Sweden as an Argentinian political refugee in the 70's. He shared a text about his life where I learned that he had helped lead guerilla groups against a right-wing dictatorship, been tortured and put in prison, passed messages through little slips that sometimes you had to swallow and then look for when you went to the toilet, was let out of prison when the dictatorship fell and came out to a cheering crowd of tens of thousands of people, had to flee when there was a counter-coup again, etc. Um. This is a little different from checking the answering machine in the union office, which is the sort of thing he does now.
