Yuletide relief

I got my Yuletide assignment, and didn't open the email for the whole evening because I was nervous I'd get that fandom I offered but was actually hoping I wouldn't get. But I have finally opened the assignment now, and I'm pretty sure I can do this. Whew.

How about you, does your assignment seem doable?

I also dropped my ereader down the stairs and it broke. /o\ I am annoyed at having to buy a new one, but I am almost as annoyed at being in the middle of a really good longfic and not being able to finish it! Arrrgh. Why was I so careless? /o\ /o\ I am however glad that I always keep a back-up folder on my computer with the contents of my ereader, so at least I didn't lose any data.

I also got a fandom I'm pretty comfortable with, which is good! I'm more than a little intimidated by my assignment, but I think I can pull off something my recipient will like

I'm glad you got a good canon match, anyway!

I am a little intimidated by my recipient in one way (they are from the region where one of the characters is from) but I guess that just means I need a good beta who is also from there. But otherwise my vague story idea that I had before signing up actually fits my recipient's request really well!

That does sound intimidating! I'm glad your idea is working though! I had someone not doing yuletide look at my person's letter to tell me what the tone actually is (I have trouble reading that at the best of times), and they said my person isn't actually being judgemental at all, so that's a weight off my chest. I'm going back and reviewing canon (such hardships!) to get details and more inspiration, but I'm starting to get the first bits of an idea for my story and I think they'll find it interesting!

My assignment seems doable, but my recipients DNWs were basically all my favourite tropes/kinks for the fandoms, WOE. And her letter is not working so I don't even know what she DOES want, just her DNWs.

Hopefully her letter will work eventually and then you'll find out what she does want? But it's a pity you weren't a good match trope-wise.

I got a request to write a fic I kind of already wrote, so I want to say, go here, read this instead? Not really sure how to write the same thing but different.

Yeah, I've had that happen for dSSS one year. Like, the recipient wanted Fraser/Victoria sex with handcuffs, and I was like, I already wrote that? How can I do it differently?

Did they only want one thing though? I usually try to give several prompts/ideas...

Yeah, just one request. It was politely phrased as a suggestion not a demand, but still, no alternatives, no letter.

(They changed the rules on dSSS so that people have to make at least two requests, but they can't ensure the requests are actually different. One year I got three prompts, which were roughly "Fraser and RayK adopt a baby", "Fraser and RayK adopt a toddler" and "Fraser and RayK adopt two toddlers" *headdesk*)

Whaaat. This is, like, golden rule stuff. You wouldn't want that to happen to you, so why do it to someone else?

My assignment is definitely doable - but it's made me have to ask the mods to relay follow-up questions for the first time in all my years of Yuletide-ing, which feels a little...not strange, but certainly unusual.

I made myself only offer fandoms I really, really felt like writing this year. Usually I try to offer as many fandoms as possible, but I smothered my conscience with the knowledge that I can try and pinch-hit for other fandoms where I'm more "picky" about what I write, should such assignments present themselves :)

And poor ereader! Hope you soon find a good replacement that isn't too expensive.

I am always pretty careful about what I offer, because I'm not the kind of person who can write just any fandom. Last year I actually didn't sign up because I'd missed nominations and felt I couldn't find enough fandoms that I really wanted to request or offer.

Yeah, I've bought a new ereader which I'm picking up tomorrow...

I've been pretty much the opposite, signing up for things that I'm not 100% devoted to, just to challenge myself. It has worked great before, but this year I decided to finally go easy on myself and only sign up for fandoms and characters I could write _anything_ for. A bit different, but I think I like it XD Will still be circling the pinch hits (and all the prompts, once they're shown to all), because I clearly don't have enough to do already...

This is my first year not doing Yuletide in FOREVER and I feel quite sad about it, but I think it was the right choice in terms of amount-of-stuff-with-deadlines. I was thinking that I might have a last-minute treat-writing party before Christmas, though, I've done that before and it was lots of fun!

Yeah, I felt sad last year when I missed it, too. : ( Treat-writing party sounds fun though!
