General update
May. 17th, 2018 11:05 pm1) My hands are much better! Still not quite done with the student essays though--I've got four left out of 42.
2) I was with my parents and my sister's family at the family summer place last weekend. And it was really summery--very warm and still and perfect for getting the moths to come and settle on my lit-up sheet when the sun had gone down. Fifteen new species for me! \o/ My three-year-old niece gave me yet another cold as a birthday present, though--she coughed all over the cake, apparently. She's such a cute little vector of pestilence.
3) I had some clashes with my mom, sigh. Also, she said the following, not actually during one of our clashes: "I guess it's better that you're geeky [about nature stuff] than if you were mentally ill." Errrrrrrrr. My dad came to my defense and said that it was a GOOD thing that I was geeky. I let it slide. The thing is, my mom often says things without thinking about what she's actually saying. If I ask her to actually think first about what she's saying and whether it could be hurtful, she'll get upset and say that I am trying to squash her expression of her spontaneous personality. *sigh* (Also: this thing she said reminds me of a hilarious thing she said when I was a teenager: "I would rather you were a lesbian than a Mormon." Not that either was in the cards--I guess it was just a hypothetical that occurred to her?)

3) It is definitely a good thing that you are geeky; I love that about you. And I guess I'd rather you were a lesbian than a Mormon, too? But wow, that's a bizarre hypothetical to come up with, especially outside of Utah.
