Dogsledding and postcards

So, in about a week I'm leaving for this year's dogsledding trip. This year, we'll be sledding for over a week in Sarek, a mountainous wilderness area where there mostly are no cabins, so we'll be sleeping in a tent. I'm so excited about this trip, and I am so scared that I'll get a cold or something before I go.

So, who wants postcards? Send me your address if you do! I know I have addresses for akamine_chan, nos4a2no9, hurry_sundown, and zabira. I have an old one for the_antichris, and I should have j_s_cavalcante's, because it was on the glove package, but alas, I have lost it.

Also, one of my housemates, who's an officer in the military, told me this cool story yesterday: apparenly Denmark needs to have people travelling all over Greenland in order to claim the territory as theirs. So there are people whose only job is to dogsled across Greenland, like, all the time! The cool thing about this is that they still use dogsleds instead of snowmobiles or something.

In unrelated news, I have a laptop for the first time in my life--the department bought it for me. I quite like it, except for how it's running Vista and apparently can't manage to copy files from my FAT32 external harddrive. WTF, Vista? I will install Linux as well. *sigh*

Also unrelated: I am rewatching Firefly. God, I love that show.

I will definitely send you a postcard! And yeah, I really couldn't resist going again this year. It was either that or MJ, and MJ lost against the sled dogs. : )

I really hope I won't get a cold, though. My boyfriend has a mild cold now, and I've been sleeping in the living room to avoid it.

There's a place called "Sarek"? Heeeeee! (Name of Spock's father in Star Trek, but you probably know this. :)

I would LOVE a postcard from there. Even if it weren't named "Sarek." Plus, sledding and tent! Research opportunities (and I don't mean botanical). ;)

I did not know about the Star Trek reference! Cool. See, I've watched maybe one episode of Star Trek in my life.

And yeah, I'll report back if I learn something that's useful for fic. I wrote an essay last year on the dogsledding part of it, but I'm sure I'll learn all kind of stuff about winter camping this year.

Thanks, I hope it'll be good! It'll be eight whole days of sledding, plus the days when we get there and leave. But the communications aren't very good, so I have to spend an extra night at a hostel on the way there.

Thanks for the good wishes health-wise. I have no cold so far, but I think I ate something bad yesterday, and got some kind of food-poisoning. I will spare you the details. : ) But that kind of thing doesn't usually last very long, so I should be all right again soon.
