Okay, time to post about something other than books.

1) This weekend I was at the Women's Arb Camp (for female arborists). Not that I am an arborist, but I was asked there to talk about forest history, and modern forestry and its threats to forest biodiversity. Which I did, and I also learned new stuff from their climbing workshops (although I skipped the one on chainsaw maintenance as not relevant for me). Am pondering whether to buy some new gear that I tried there. Although I also brought home some new gear--they had pretty great goodie bags from sponsors.

2) The weekend before that, I visited friends, and I spent two hours alone with their kids, aged five and two-and-a-half! I'd been there a couple of days, and the kids knew me from before, too. But I have never actually taken care of kids alone before. It went well--we made pancakes and then later the kids tied me up with the garden hose. I still don't want any kids of my own, but I do feel proud of my achievement. Which may not seem much to those of you who are parents and take care of kids all the time, but for me it was a big thing.

3) I may have something wrong with my hip. I've had some pain for a while at the inside juncture of my thigh when my leg ends up in a "wrong" position (for example when I make a mis-step, or when putting that leg over the other leg in a sitting position and pulling it up to stretch out the glutes). I went to a physical therapist this week, and after bending and pushing etc on my leg in various positions, he said that it could be that two edges on my hip joint were coming up against each other in certain positions, and that's what hurts. I will be referred to be x-rayed, and meanwhile he has given me a program to strengthen the muscles where my thighs attach to my groin, which will apparently help. I am good at following physical therapy programs, at least. And he said I should continue to work out and run, as long as I avoid the positions that hurt.

4) Did not sign up for Femslashex, but I did look through some letters and was hit with inspiration by a prompt, so I will be writing a treat!
