The Power by Naomi Alderman (audiobook, 2016)
Hmmm. The premise is that women develop the power to give electric shocks with their hands. Cue social change, at first kind of feel-good as women get their own back, but it quickly devolves into one long illustration of "power corrupts" until it's full-on reverse patriarchy. Good audiobook reader, but a rather bleak book.
The Nature of a Pirate by A. M. Dellamonica (#3 in the Stormwrack series, 2016)
Maybe I was more in the mood for a fantasy romp? I wish there were more of these, they are good entertainment.
Also I read The Invisible Valley by Su Wei for book club, but the meeting was put off, so I will wait to write it up.
