RL update: unexpected feelings edition
Sep. 5th, 2019 09:51 pmOops, I have not written an update since July. Anyway, I'm back at work but doing other stuff on the weekends, and it's a bit intense right now.
1) My sister got married a few weeks ago. I helped out a lot with baking/dishwashing/cleaning etc, which she appreciated. And it was just a really nice weekend! I got to meet a lot of her friends, who are very nice. The actual ceremony was outdoors, under a big oak. I was unexpectedly teary-eyed and moved, which my sister later teased me about. I mean, I would not want to get married myself, which she knows. I have never wanted to. But it was right for them, and it was lovely. ♥ I love my sister so much. I sang at the ceremony and also later at the party. The song at the party was a Swedish translation of the Hanson song "Mmmbop". This was mostly a joke, since my sister was a huge Hanson fan in her teens. But hey, the lyrics are actually wedding-relevant.
2) A few days ago I was at my first union negotiation, to try out if this is something I would want to do in the future. I was just there to listen and to write the minutes. But wow, it really stirred up my feelings. I intensely disliked the head guy on the other side, who was mansplainy and condescending and told the woman we were representing that no, her boss had not actually grabbed her by the arm and shouted at her. That was not the version of the story that he had heard. Grrrrr.
3) Hmmm, what else? I was not keen on going back to work this fall, but somehow once I was actually teaching I found I enjoyed it as always. I just really like the combination of being on stage, figuring out how to best to convey the material, and interacting with the students. And some of them told me my lectures were great. ♥ Good to know I'm in the right line of work after all. And I'm relieved, because this is the course that I had a year ago and didn't click with the class at all. Whew, it is working out this time.
