So, uh, I am kind of in the throes of fannish passion for that very slashy book I read recently. The thing is, there are fewer than ten fics for it, but most of those are by the same author and they are extremely good. Seriously, [archiveofourown.org profile] Hyarrowen is a fandom hero for writing the fic that really needed to happen for that pairing. I read one of the two long ones today and it addled my wits so that I missed my tram stop and now I don't want to read anything else. Augh.

I guess this is a pretty obvious pairing for me to fall for, considering my track record. Also, both the book and the fic has great nature description! I'm so predictable.

Fic might possibly happen, if I can find a way to work it into the plot of the book. Podfic definitely will, if I get permission (although I'd need help if I'm not to mangle all the Scottish place names).

Woe. I wanted this book desperately after reading your review. Looked for it through my library system and they don't have it, looked for it online and found copies costing hundreds of dollars. Can't stop thinking about writing fic for it as a dS AU ("sharing a Clan Fraser plaid while huddling for warmth together among the heather"!) but not going to write fic without reading the original. *sigh*

Hiya! Hope I'm not butting in, but I want more people to read this book, so: there are second-hand copies available in various places (I just found this one on thriftbooks.com for quite a reasonable price, and I got my copy from a random charity bookstall for 50p, so I'd not despair of finding it in a second-hand shop somewhere). Also, Broster's works enter the public domain in the UK next year, so if you can't find it elsewhere I'd keep an eye on public-domain ebook places like Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive.

No, it's not "butting in" when you respond to open comments! It's being sociable and helpful!

I will continue to pursue getting this book!

Just now found and purchased the whole trilogy -- "The Jacobite Trilogy" -- for seven dollars via Amazon Smile which donates to the OTW.

:D :D :D

I completely agree about Hyarrowen's fic, it's beautiful and brilliant and that sort of dedication to such a rare fandom and pairing is amazing.

Ooh, yes, and the nature descriptions! Such a good part of the world for it, too (if I ever write fic, the shippiness will probably be frequently interrupted by long birdwatching intervals).

Hey, I don't know, you can do a lot with atmospheric descriptions of moss and lichens!

Ooh, that sounds good :D
