luzulaI thought the previous movie was disappointing and so I went into this one with low expectations. And in the beginning, I thought it was pretty bad. WTF are they doing rushing around after some MacGuffin while navigating computer game scenes?? They could have used that space for some actual meaningful plot/characterization. The appearance of Palpatine and the endless fleet of evil (btw, how did they staff those ships...?) also made me roll my eyes.
But okay, I was won over by it towards the end, and I do think it was a somewhat satisfying ending. Leia training as a Jedi, and helping to train Rey! ♥ The scene on the remains of the Death Star in the stormy sea was gorgeous. And I guess there could be a worse message than "you are not determined by your blood". Some people seem to think Rey was settling down on the farm at the end, but I didn't get that. I thought she was just there to do the thing with the light sabers.
Oh, and also, I loved the bit where they ride on "horses" and shoot bows on top of the star destroyer. I laughed and laughed. In some ways that just captures the essence of Star Wars.
Can I have a movie now about Jannah and the other ex-stormtroopers who mutinied and how they ended up as steppe riders instead?
